A prolific creator including over a dozen expansive albums and multiple stage plays, Sonny Smith is known for his vivid storytelling and multidisciplinary work at the nexus of music, playwriting and multimedia art. During a 2010 residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, CA., Smith created the nationally recognized project 100 Records, inventing the personae of one hundred fictional bands, then writing and recording singles under each band's moniker. He invited one hundred artists to produce artwork for the album covers that subsequently debuted at Gallery 16 in April/May 2010. Smith’s work has been featured in KQED, Pop Matters and Pitchfork, and his newest album Rod For Your Love will be released in March 2018. The artist lives and works in San Francisco, CA.
