Adriane Colburn is an artist based in New York. A penchant for research and direct experience has led her to participate in scientific expeditions in the Arctic, the Amazon, and at sea. Adriane’s recent work consists of large-scale installations comprised of layers of hand cut paper, digital prints, projected light, wood, and found objects. These works investigate the complex relationships between human infrastructure, earth systems, technology, and the natural world. Using data, images, and videos collected through research and while participating in scientific expeditions, Adriane looks at how mapping is used to investigate fragile and inaccessible ecosystems.
Adriane is currently on the faculty at Bard College. She has been an artist in residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts, Macdowell Colony, Kala Institute, and Blue Mountain Center. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US and internationally at venues such as Smack Mellon Parsons/New School in New York, Luggage Store Gallery and Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, Artsterium in the Republic of Georgia, and the Royal Academy of Art in London.
