ROBERT HARDGRAVE: STUDIO VISIT
August 05, 2016

"Working in this way has taught me that there are no wrong answers. Failure is a teacher. The only thing left to do is trust myself to create imagery that is honest to who I am. Stress and self-doubt are natural human feelings. For me, I just work through them until those feelings are overpowered by the excitement of what is being made." –Robert Hardgrave
Fore more from Robert Hardgrave describing his acrylic toner transfer technique and his wholistic approach to working in the studio, check out the September 2016 issue of Juxtapoz Magazine.

For the past decade, Hardgrave has made a significant contribution to visual arts in the Pacific Northwest. Robert’s latest works involve toner transfer printing, a process that allows the artist to bridge the gap between printmaking and painting.
Ala Ebtekar, Under Every Deep a Lower Deep Opens (Hafez), 2015, 30'' x 40'', edition of 10, pigment ink printed over vintage book pages on Rives BFK white 270 gsm paper
Ala Ebtekar is widely known for his work in painting, drawing, and installation. His work explores the juncture between history and myth, melding together Persian mythology, science, philosophy, and pop culture. Gallery 16 Editions and Ala worked for two years to create two distinct but interconnected print editions. The concept was to use two books important to Ebtekar’s work as the literal physical support for each print. The two books are the Divan-e-Hafez, Persian poet Hafez’s revered collection of works, first published in 1680 and Works of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Riverside Edition, published in 1889. We’re proud to announce that these prints were recently added to the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Fazzolari describes the origin of the prints, “Dat Rosa is a body of work inspired by my color responses to fragrances. I experience color responses to scent, a phenomenon called synesthesia.”
We are excited to announce a G16 Pop-Up gallery at Minnesota Street Project for the month of July. We will be presenting a show titled “Remainder”.
