'Nadair Asghari: Recent Works'

Gallery 16’s window exhibition space ‘Double Strength’ is pleased to present a new series of paintings by Nadair Asghari. “Recent Work” will have an opening reception November 15th, from 6 to 9pm.

Asghari’s paintings are born out of a compulsive drawing practice that taps into a frenetic and candid energy. Jagged minimal figures dance and contort around one another in a style split between Kashmir Malevich’s stark abstractions and Keith Haring’s jubilant gestural drawings. The paintings describe a world of wild karaoke and youthful abandon, but never overindulge in their looseness: Using various acrylic mediums, Asghari’s painted surfaces yield a fanatical attention to edge and texture while also making room for gesture and improvisation.

Nadair Asghari’s practice is multidisciplinary, ranging from tattoo work to furniture design but with a sustaining focus on painting. His work has been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, and all around the Bay Area. Nadair was raised in Concord, CA and currently lives and works in Oakland.
