Alyssa Block + Paige Gausman: LIVE WORK

Gallery 16 and Double Strength are pleased to announce LIVE WORK by Alyssa Block and Paige Gausman, on display June 1 – July 26. The show consists of large format prints of diaristic drawings and will be viewable from the exterior windows facing Bryant Street and 3rd Street.

LIVE WORK is a show of new and recent drawings by Bay Area artists Alyssa Block and Paige Gausman. Although their respective practices span across various mediums – Gausman in illustration, collage, and textile design, and Block in product design, animation and sculpture – both use drawing as a catalyst for their ideas. On a grand scale, the show offers a glimpse into their sketchbooks as they attempt to record, organize, and experiment with images sourced from the world around them.

Alyssa Block is an artist living in San Francisco who utilizes the solitary activity of drawing as a through-line between drawings, sculptures, and designed objects. Her work examines personal growth, temporality, and the familiar details of everyday life. She received her MFA from SFAI in 2013, has exhibited work in the United States and Israel, and teaches ceramic sculpture courses at SFAI and CCSF.

Paige Gausman is from Pennsylvania and based in the Bay Area working as an artist and youth art educator. She studied illustration at CCA, PRATT and RISD. Often creating an escape to an alternate reality, Gausman’s work reimagines personal subject matter in order to gain a new sense of understanding and control. Gausman has a forthcoming exhibition of new paintings at Arch Art and Drafting Supplies, titled Mind of an Artist’s Table, on view June 9 – July 9, with an opening reception June 9 from 4–6pm.
